You may have come to the end of your mortgage deal and are paying interest at our Standard Variable Rate (SVR). In this case, you may want to consider remortgaging or switching your mortgage.

Another reason could be that you're on a tracker rate and the Bank of England's base rate has gone up and, therefore, so have your interest payments.

Home insurance

Having buildings insurance is a condition of our mortgage offer, but you don’t need to buy it through Royal Bank of Scotland and it doesn’t affect how much we’ll lend you.

Life insurance is not a requirement of our mortgage. However, having one in place could offer you the confidence that whatever happens, you or your loved ones could be protected.
