Can I apply for a student overdraft online and how much will I receive?
Student overdrafts are available to customers aged 18+ who have been living in the UK for at least 3 years. They are subject to status and lending criteria. You must apply for an overdraft online – it isn’t provided automatically.
Initial limit:
You can apply for an overdraft of up to £500 when you first open your student account.
Increasing your limit:
You may be able to apply to increase your overdraft over time, up to:
- £2,000 from your second term in the first year of your course
- £3,250 from Year 3 onwards (including after you graduate)
The limits shown are maximum amounts and subject to lending criteria, if approved, your overdraft limit may be lower than the maximum. Your student account should be used as your main bank account and all regular income, maintenance loans and wages should be paid into it.
The application form will only take you 5-10 minutes to complete. Once you've submitted an application our processing team will action your request as quickly as possible. This usually takes a few days.
We will send written confirmation by post once your application has been successfully completed.
If there are any problems with your application, we will send you a text with a number to call us back on.
