2027 cash ISA limit changes explained

Update 28 October 2026

The Government has announced that the planned ISA reforms for April 2027 will not go ahead. This means:

  • The current £20,000 annual ISA allowance will continue.
  • There will be no £12,000 Cash ISA limit for under-65s. You’ll continue to be able to pay up to the full £20,000 annual allowance into a Cash ISA.
  • The proposed new restrictions on ISA transfers will not be introduced. Existing ISA transfer arrangements will continue, including the ability to transfer between Stocks & Shares and Cash ISAs.

There’s nothing you need to do. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Transfer an existing ISA to RBS

An ISA transfer means switching your ISA savings to a new provider. This might be for a better interest rate or to take advantage of a different type of ISA altogether.

You can transfer an existing ISA held elsewhere into your RBS ISA at any time, bringing everything together in one place. And transferring an account from a previous tax year won’t affect your ISA allowance for this year.

Before you start, just remember to go through the official ISA transfer process. That way, you won’t lose out on any tax benefits. Also note that your existing provider may charge an ISA transfer fee.

Please note, your existing provider may charge an ISA transfer fee.
