What to do if you are worried about a payment

Don’t recognise a payment?

There can be a number of explanations for a payment you don't recognise, such as a company trading with a different name or an expired free trial.

You can view more details about a payment in your mobile app by tapping the transaction and scrolling to transaction details.

Report a transaction

If you still don't recognise the transaction on your bank account, you can easily report it and we'll be there to support you.

To do that, fill in our online form in the mobile app or Digital Banking.

  • Simply login to your mobile app or Digital Banking
  • Select the transaction you wish to query
  • Click the 'Report a dispute, fraud or scam' link

If your query relates to a credit card transaction you can get advice from our AI Assistant Cora in the Royal Bank of Scotland app to help you raise the claim. ​

  • Simply login to your mobile app

  • You’ll be connected to Cora, our AI Assistant.​
  • Cora will ask a few quick questions about what happened.​
  • Based on your answers, you’ll be guided to the right team or next step.​

Fraud is where you've identified suspicious activity on your account.

This may be a transaction you didn't knowingly make, or an update to your contact details you didn't make

A scam is when you've knowingly parted with your money and/or personal details, thinking you were dealing with a genuine person or company. Scammers use many tactics, from imtimidation to promises of cash, prizes, services, even romance.

Dispute

If you haven't received goods or services from a genuine company, it's a dispute. you should always speak with the retailer first to try and resolve the issue directly with them. If you've contacted the company and still need our support please raise a dispute.

Both the phishing mailbox and text reporting number are automated services. Please do not send other queries or personal information, including bank account details to them.

If you've completed the checks above, and still believe the transaction is fraudulent or the result of a scam, please let us know as quickly as possible. To speed the process up, please try to have as much information about the transaction or event as possible before you get in touch.
