These are text messages, push notifications or emails sent to you if you have personal current accounts, so you can take action to minimise or avoid fees and returned items.

If you  are enrolled for text Act Now Alerts, you will be sent the alert by push notice if you are registered for the mobile app and have used it in the past 30 days. If not, you will be sent a SMS/text to the mobile number you have given us.

If you have selected to receive Act Now Alerts by email, you will be sent an email.

Your  account has gone into an unarranged overdraft as we’ve paid transactions you’ve made e.g. points of sales or, we are paying a direct debit/standing order you have requested

We are NOT paying a scheduled payment due today (e.g. direct debit, standing order) as there is not enough money in your account. 

When are Act Now Alerts Sent?

When are Act Now Alerts sent

They are sent by 10am on business days to give you an opportunity to pay in cleared funds and avoid/minimise fees/debit interest and unpaid items (standing orders/direct debits not being paid).

Delivery is dependent on your network, on the signal strength and if the phone/device is turned on.

How am I enrolled for Act Now Alerts?

You are automatically enrolled for text Act Now Alerts if you have a valid mobile number when you:

  • open a personal current account
  • update your mobile number
  • convert your account
  • add an arranged overdraft to your account
  • If you add a person to your account and they are eligible for alerts they will also be enrolled

How do I stop Act Now Alerts?

How do I stop Act Now Alerts

You can opt in/out of alerts (including email alerts) via the mobile app, Digital Banking, telephony or branch.

Please be aware that turning off Act Now Alerts will result in no alerts being sent when your account is in excess and/or an item due the same day might go unpaid and fees and charges could apply.

We will send your alert but receipt of it is dependent on your network, if your mobile number provided is correct and/or you email address provided is correct and your inbox is not full.

What do I do if I receive an alert?

What do I do if I receive an alert

First check your available balance.

If you do not have enough funds, here are simple ways for you to pay money into your account:

  •  Transfer money from another Royal Bank of Scotland account, for example via Digital Banking or telephone banking
  •  Pay in cash over the counter at any Royal Bank of Scotland branch

If you need to pay money into your account following an alert here are the cut off times given within the alert message.
