How does the Switch process work?

Day 1 & 2

The Current Account Switch Service will contact your old bank and they confirm if the switch can go ahead.

Day 3

Your new account will then be set up and your payments, like your salary and bill payments will be moved across.

Day 6 & 7

We talk to your old bank about transferring your balance over. On Day 7 your balance will then be transferred and your old account will be closed. And that's your switch complete!

For our existing customers

If you already have a Royal Bank Select, Reward, Reward Silver, Reward Platinum or Reward Black accounts with us, and have  the details of the account elsewhere you want to switch in, then you can start your switch straight away. 

Switching with third party permissions

If you have given permissions to Third Party Providers to make payments on your behalf, or to access your financial information, access to these services won’t be transferred automatically to your new account as part of the Current Account Switch Service.

To start your switch, browse our range of eligible accounts and when you are ready, start the online application. You'll be able to request the switch during the application.

Do you have a current account with Royal Bank?

You're all set

You’ll need these bits of info handy for your application:

  • The account number, sort code and debit card number of the bank account you want to switch to us
  • The account number and sort code of your existing Royal Bank current account

The Current Account Switch Service will move everything across from your old bank account to your Royal Bank current account within 7 working days.
