Websigner

From 16th May 2026 Payment Services Website (PSW) will no longer be compatible with eSigner. To use TrustAssured smartcards, users will need to have moved to Websigner and   ensure they have the latest version of compatible software, hardware, and web browsers to continue accessing and using the PSW.

Following Internet Explorer becoming unsupported, by Microsoft, users must use either Edge or Chrome browsers, plus the  ‘black’ Gemalto SWAT pin pad which replaces the clear readers, the pin pads have been distributed to existing users.

Why move to Websigner?

Microsoft decommissioned Internet Explorer 11 in June 2022, which was the browser used for TrustAssured (Smartcard and Reader) to access the Bacs Payments Services Website (PSW). In February 2022, we shared details on how you can continue to use eSigner to access the Bacs PSW through Edge in compatibility mode. Microsoft do not have plans to decommission compatibility mode at this point, at present Microsoft have published that this will be available to at least 2029.

As such we have made the decision to upgrade to Websigner now to mitigate any future risk with accessing the service. In addition, Websigner brings the following benefits:

  • Available on both Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers.
  • Simplified setup for customers (No more CD software installation).
  • New Gemalto SWAT readers have increased security.

Browsers and operating software

Websigner is compatible with both Microsoft Edge & Google Chrome browsers and is only available on Windows 10 & 11 (not available on Chromebook or MAC).

When did this happen?

Pay.UK has confirmed that all users needed to migrate to Websigner from 16th May 2026, to keep using PSW without disruption. After this date, all users will need to be using Websigner with the new Gemalto SWAT readers on Edge or Chrome browsers. IE11 (incl. Edge compatibility mode) will no longer be possible.
