These are the versions required Classic Client v.6.5.0 & Websigner 2.0.2.25.

Check that the correct software has been installed (Classic Client v.6.5.0, eSigner 7.4.0 & Websigner 2.0.2.25).

Check that the Websigner extension is enabled in Extensions > Manage Extensions.

Check that the website has not launched in Internet Explorer mode in Edge browser.

Gemalto PKI PIN Pad is equipped with USB type C connector and a USB type C  USB type A (USB 2.0 full-speed interface) cable is included in the package together with the reader.

The following steps need to be taken only if the current PIN is set as AlphaNumeric:

1. Ensure that Classic Classic Client v.6.5.0 &  eSigner 7.4.0 are installed on your PC/Laptop (if not, this can be downloaded classicclient.co.uk
2. Insert the smartcard in a clear plastic USB reader which is plugged into a USB port
3. Go to Applications list and select Classic Client Toolbox under Gemalto
4. Click on Card Administration > PIN Management
5. Under Change PIN, click on Next
6. Enter existing PIN
7. Enter the new PIN (numeric only)
8. Confirm new PIN (numeric only)

Websigner is compatible with both Microsoft Edge & Google Chrome browsers and is only available on Windows 10 & 11 (not available on Chromebook or MAC)

Gemalto PKI PIN Pad reader has no battery. The power is supplied to the reader via the USB interface. It requires the USB cable of the device to be connected to a platform that has its own power supply or battery.

When the reader is connected and no smart card is slotted in the reader, a card insertion symbol is shown until a card is inserted.

1. Remove the Smart Card from the clear plastic reader
2. Unplug the clear plastic reader from the PC/Laptops USB port (if it is connected through USB interface)
3. Plug the PIN Pad reader to the PC/Laptops USB port
4. Insert smartcard into the PIN pad reader
5. Open Classic Client Toolbox and select Card Contents > Certificates
6. On right hand side, click on Login & enter PIN using PIN pad reader
7. If Login changes to Logout then PIN has been accepted

Gemalto PKI PIN Pad readers support ISO-8859-15 (also known as ISO-Latin-9) as character table supporting most Western European languages.

The smart card interface of the Gemalto PKI PIN Pad is a sliding ISO 7816-Compliant contact with 3V Smart Card power supply support and support T=0 and T=1 protocol.

The reader is equipped with a sensor to detect card insertion/removal.

The end user will need to have appropriate permission to deploy the browser extension so if there are any group policies in place restricting deployment of browser extension deployment the IT department would need to whitelist the extension through appropriate group policy white listening.

The test menu can be accessed by pressing the key ‘5’ while inserting a smartcard in the reader slot. The reader FW version is then displayed on the screen, and the [OK] button can be pressed subsequently to display the list of the available test options:

1. LCD To test the segments in the display.
2. Keyboard To test the keyboard function.
3. Smart Card Tests the card communication.
4. Reader info Displays the firmware version and the unconnected function configuration.

Press on the key [1], [2]… is expected by the reader to launch the corresponding test in the list.

The browser extension will be automatically updated when a new version for RBS is published whilst the signing component will only be updated when a new installation package is made available and executed manually.

The Gemalto PKI PIN Pad has built in timeout whilst as a connected device, the purpose is not for power saving, but due to security reasons.

These timeouts may happen if a long period of inactivity is detected whilst a user input is requested. For instance:

During a PIN code seizing, when entering digits or OK / Cancel validation is expected.

During a Message display, when entering OK / Cancel is expected.

The timeout defined in the firmware of the reader is set to 60 seconds. When a timeout happens, it simply cancels the current operation, which must be resumed from the start if needed.
