Payit™ enables customers to make secure, real-time payments directly from their bank account using open banking.

The user selects Pay By Bank (Payit™), is redirected to their bank, and completes secure bank authentication using trusted methods such as biometrics, passcodes, or multi-factor authentication.

Once approved, the payment is transferred instantly, with immediate confirmation for both the customer and the business. Alongside payments, Payit™ can also enable secure access to account data via Open Banking. This helps businesses streamline journeys — such as pre-populating details, validating accounts, or enabling smarter decision-making.

Overall, Payit™ removes the need for cards, making payments faster, simpler, and highly secure, while enhancing experiences through intelligent use of account data.

This service is available to you if you are a NatWest or Royal Bank Business Current Account or Foundation Account holder or Ulster Bank NI Business Current Account holder, using the Mobile app.

You are able to create a secure, single use request for payment. Share a link initiates this request for payment and can be used for anyone you have electronic contact details for who uses online or mobile banking, providing they have an eligible account with a participating UK bank and use mobile or online banking. 

It means you no longer need to share your account details to request a payment. It’s quick, safe and secure. 

The following steps show you how to use this feature:

To create an Anytime link (this can be paid by anyone at any time):
a) Navigate to Payments within your Mobile app
b)    Choose Request money
c)    Choose Share a link
d)    Choose Anytime link
e)    Tap Share anytime link and choose your preferred messaging application – WhatsApp, email, SMS.
f)    Your contact will receive a notification within the chosen messaging application and will then be able to click on the link and make the payment direct from their Mobile banking app, straight into your bank account.

To create a One-time link (this can be paid by only one person, a single payment for a set amount):
a) Navigate to Payments within your Mobile app
b)    Choose Request money
c)    Choose Share a link
d)    Tap One-time link
e)    Enter the name of the person you’re requesting money from (Payer name)
f)    Enter the reason for requesting a payment (Reference)
g)    Enter how much money you’re requesting (Amount – limit is £10,000 per request)
h)    Tap Share one-time link
i)     Choose your preferred messaging application – WhatsApp, email, SMS.
j)     Your contact will receive a notification within the chosen messaging application and will then be able to click on the link and make the payment direct from their Mobile banking app, straight into your bank account.

To create an Anytime QR code (this can be paid by anyone at any time):
a) Navigate to Payments within your Mobile app
b)    Choose Request money
c)    Choose Show a QR code
d)    Choose Anytime QR code
e)    A QR code will be auto-generated and shown on screen. Simply show this to the payer and ask them to follow the instructions on screen, where they can enter the payment amount and reference.
f) The payer will then be able to scan the QR code with their phone camera and  follow the instructions on screen, where they can enter the payment amount and reference.

To create a One-time QR code (this can be paid by only one person, a single payment for a set amount):
a) Navigate to Payments within your Mobile app
b)    Choose Request money
c)    Choose Show a QR code
d)    Tap One-time QR code
e)    Enter the reason for requesting a payment (Reference)
g)    Enter how much money you’re requesting (Amount – limit is £10,000 per request)
h)    Tap Create QR code
i)    A QR code will appear on screen, and will be active for 5 minutes until it times out.
j) The payer will then be able to scan the QR code with their phone camera and make the payment direct from their Mobile banking app, straight into your bank account

Business Banking customers can use Payit™ to request up to £10,000 per request. You are responsible for ensuring the amount that you request is correct.

Each bank sets their own limit to how much its customers can send via Online or Mobile banking and so some higher value payments may not be possible if it is greater than that bank’s limit.

The Payer should refer to their bank for more information.

Request money is provided by Payit^TM, a NatWest-owned online payment solution.

It uses the UK's Open Banking infrastructure to securely connect to your Bank's online or mobile banking, allowing you to log in using your existing credentials.

Payit™ does not see your login credentials, nor does it store or share any of your personal bank account information. More details on Open Banking.

The Active status means that the secure, single-use request to pay link generated has either not been sent or accessed by the payer yet.

Depending on your preference, you will be able to cancel or resend the secure, single-use request to pay link. 

The In-progress status means that the payer has initiated the payment by opening the secure, single-use request to pay link and is in the process of making the payment.

The Pending status means that the payer has completed their payment and is waiting for their Bank to process the payment.

The Complete status means that the Payer’s bank has completed the money transfer and payment should now appear in your account.

Share a link and Show a QR code uses Faster Payments for single immediate payments. Once actioned, the majority of transactions are completed within a second, however please allow for up to 2 hours.

In a small number of cases, the payer’s Bank may hold a payment internally prior to release (e.g. for fraud checks).  In this scenario Share a link/Show a QR Code will return a "Payment Processing” status to you and continue to poll the Bank for updates for up to 3 days, after which point the payment status will be marked as failed.

Show a QR code is designed to request a payment from someone face to face. We would encourage you to request a payment via Share a Link should you want to send a request via a messaging application.

You can send up to 50 payment link or Show a QR code requests per account in 1 day. Your reusable payment link or Show a QR code can be used to make a payment to you up to 100 times in 1 day.

If you are a Business Banking customer you may be charged for receiving the payment, in line with your Business Account Tariff.

Business customers can send a Payit™ request to anyone they want to collect payment from,  providing they have an eligible account with a participating UK bank and use mobile or online banking. 

You should ensure that you only request payments where they are due and consider whether Payit™ is the right option for your customer.

To update an expired QR to your wallet:

1. Delete the expired QR code in your Apple/Google Wallet
2. In your Natwest app select ‘Payments’ at the bottom of the screen 
3. Tap ‘Request Money’ then ‘Get paid by someone nearby – Show a QR code’
4. Select 'Add to Apple/Google Wallet' which displays under your QR code. You can then view the QR by visiting the Wallet app on your mobile device

Open Banking lets you safely share your bank information or make payments directly from your bank account using trusted apps or services. You’re always in control and only share what you choose. 

Payit™ is NatWest’s open banking service. It helps people and businesses send and receive money straight from one bank account to another—no cards needed. It also supports secure, real-time data sharing (with permission) directly from a customer’s banking app.

• The Faster Payments Scheme is generally available 24/7 for the majority of large Banks. Payments usually clear immediately, however guidance is given that it can take up to 2 hours.
• In a small number of cases, payments may take longer if they are held (e.g. if they trigger a fraud warning).

Payit’s Account Information Service (AIS) is an open banking feature that allows businesses to securely access and use a customer’s bank account data (with their consent).

It seeks to replace or reduce existing manual processes, such as inputting data, thereby improving data accuracy and completion rates.

Utility providers can use real-time financial data to identify vulnerability earlier and better understand a customer’s circumstances. Access to verified, up-todate income information enables proactive support, faster case resolution, and more consistent, compliant decision-making.  

Payit offers both low-code (sending payment) and API-based options depending on your needs. Low-code enables quick setup with minimal development, while APIs allow full custom integration, including with SAP systems via standard middleware.

Businesses should plan for SAP integration by aligning data, defining use cases, and involving integration specialists.

Payit provides SDKs, APIs, documentation, and sandbox environments to support delivery. With the right resources (developers, SAP specialists, project lead), implementation can take as little as 2–6 weeks, depending on complexity.

Split Bill is a functionality in the NatWest, Royal Bank and Ulster Bank NI Mobile App, available to NW and RBS Business Current Account and Foundation Account holders and UBNI Business Current Account holders only. It allows the user to split a debit transaction (pending or processed) between up to 9 people, generating payment request links for the payers, providing they have an eligible account with a participating UK bank and use mobile or online banking.  

Transactions can be split between up to 9 people, with a max transaction value of £10,000 per person, i.e. max £100,000 transaction. The transaction amount must be > £0.01 for the Split Bill function to work. You can split a maximum of 10 transaction in a 24 hour period.

The following steps show you how to use this feature:

1.       Click on a transaction (processed or pending)

2.       Select Split Bill

3.       Enter number of people for the split

4.       Enter the name of the person you want to split the bill with i.e. 'John'

5.       Option to edit the value of transaction split if not equal between payers

6.       Generate separate payment request links for each payer

7.       Choose Share link and follow the instructions to share link through social channels

Each transaction can be split with up to 9 people, you can request up to £10,000 from each individual. This gives a maximum transaction value of £100,000.

The transactions will be visible in the Payments section of the app. Click on your Current or Foundation Account you made the request from, then choose ‘Payments’, now select ‘Request Money’ and in this screen you will be able to select ‘View recent payment requests’.

The Active status means that the secure, single-use request to pay link generated has either not been sent or accessed by the payer yet.

Depending on your preference, you will be able to resend the secure, single-use request to pay link.
