Support for female entrepreneurs

The Rose Review was launched in March 2019 by Alison Rose, our CEO, at the request of the UK government. It sets out to identify the disparity between male and female entrepreneurs when starting and scaling businesses, and the barriers facing women.

Alison Rose says this has resulted in 'unrealised potential' for the UK economy. Advancing female entrepreneurship represents a £250bn opportunity for the UK economy.

An extra £1bn of funding available for Women in Business

In 2021, we made an additional £1 billion in funding available to help support female-led businesses in the UK recover from the impact of COVID-19, this builds on the £1 billion announced in January 2020. You can apply for funding through our range of loan and finance options.

Ask for more

We’re on a mission to help more women start and scale up their businesses. But we know that women are 80% less likely to apply for funding and when they do they ask for less.

The Rose Review published this year by our CEO Alison Rose and HMT, identified three significant opportunities to help more women succeed as entrepreneurs, from start-up to scale up:

Increased funding directed towards female entrepreneurs.

Greater family care support for female entrepreneurs.

Giving women increased access to role models, mentors and networks.
