What happens when you switch?

Step 1 |
We’ll send a request to your old bank to confirm the switch and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way. |

Step 2 |
Your old account will be closed on your behalf. Your balance and payments (like Direct Debits) will be moved to your Royal Bank account. |

Step 3 |
The switch is complete. Your old bank will make sure that any payments made to your old account will redirect to your new Royal Bank account. |
Important information
- The Current Account Switch Service will do all the work when it comes to switching, moving everything across from your old account all within 7 working days, including Direct Debits and Standing Orders.
- This service is only available to switch current accounts. Any other products you have with your old bank won't be moved at the same time.
- Over 40 UK banks and building societies have signed-up to the Current Account Switch Service. You can check if your existing bank provider is a participant here.
