Q. Do I have to pay for Secure Messaging?

A. No, Secure Messaging is a free service for The Royal Bank of Scotland corporate customers. So you won't pay any set-up charges or fees. (Please note that some services that can be requested through the Secure Messaging are chargeable at our standard product rates.)

Q. How will Secure Messaging help me?

A. You can ensure that data-sensitive electronic communications with us are entirely confidential - vital in today's competitive markets.

  • You can rest assured your secure messages will be transmitted directly to a member of Bank staff or department chosen by you from a list of contacts.
  • You can free up valuable time, as tasks such as ordering a copy statement take just a matter of minutes.

Q. What kind of transactions could I use Secure Messaging for?

A. With a couple of 'clicks' you can:

  • Stop a cheque/chequebook
  • Remove a stop from a cheque/cheque book
  • Place a travel money order of up to £2,500
  • Order or request:
    • A copy voucher
    • A copy statement
    • A BACS recall
    • A chequebook/paying-in book

Please be aware that the Secure Messaging service cannot be used to send value and/or time critical instructions, such as payment instructions. The messaging function lets you send simple messages quickly and securely to your relationship manager.

Q. How are my messages made secure?

A. Robust online security is achieved through the use of browser based encryption. Unlike standard e-mail, Secure Messaging uses secure web mail boxes via protected Internet connections, accessing web browser technology.

Q. Do I need to install additional software on my computer system?

A. No, users will only need e-mail and web browser Internet access.

Q. How do I apply for Secure Messaging?

A.It's easy, you can download application forms here. Simply decide how many users you wish to register and complete a form for each individual. Apply for Secure Messaging now.

Q. How will I get my Username, PIN and Password?

A. Your Username and PIN will be sent automatically to your external e-mail account on registering. Someone from the Bank will then contact you directly via the telephone with your Password.

Q. Does this affect my other methods of communication with The RoyalBank of Scotland?

A. You can continue to fax or telephone us in the usual way. However you'll probably prefer to use Secure Messaging as a matter of course because:

  • It's quick and easy and you can rest assured all your communications will be confidential.
  • You can send secure free-format e-mails with or without attachments e.g. spreadsheets/contracts.
  • Specific instructions, such as BACS recalls and requests for copy statements, are swift, straightforward and confidential. Plus you have an instant record of your request.

Q. Can I access Secure Messaging from outside my office?

A.Yes, using your PIN and Password you can use Secure Messaging on any PC, Mac or laptop with e-mail and web browser Internet access.

Q. I've posted my application form. How long before I can use Secure Messaging?

A. Two weeks from receipt of your completed form. Our security and set up processes take up to 10 working days.
