Activity Alerts


To help you stay informed and secure


With Activity Alerts you’ll receive a text whenever certain activities take place on your account. This means you can keep track of certain changes to your account without having to call, visit a branch or log in to online banking. They’ll also provide you with increased security because you’ll know if something unexpected happens.

Here's an example message:

"Your home phone number has been updated as requested on 26/05/2011. Please contact us if you have any queries."

When do we send Activity Alerts?


We'll send you an Activity Alert as confirmation whenever you:

  • create or amend a payee - either a UK individual or company
  • create or amend a standing order
  • update your address or telephone details
  • are issued with a new debit/cash card or PIN.

How to register for Activity Alerts?


If you have provided a valid UK mobile number, you will receive these Alerts automatically – you don't need to do anything.

If you have not yet provided us with your mobile number, you can do this by updating your details through online banking.

Alternatively, you can visit any of our branches or call 08457 242424 and update your details.

Common questions about Activity Alerts


What happens if an Activity Alert is not delivered?
If an Activity Alert is returned undelivered we will try to resend it but we will not be responsible if the service is unavailable at any time or you are not sent or do not receive an Activity Alert. They may also be delayed or not received due to factors affecting your mobile phone network service provider or other events outside our control.

Do Activity Alerts work with all RBS accounts?
They work with all personal RBS current and savings accounts. You must be aged 11 or above and hold a valid UK mobile number.

What should I do if I receive an Activity Alert and I don’t recognise the transaction?
If you have received an Alert and you don’t recognise the transaction or the activity on your account please contact us immediately on 08457 242424 or visit your local branch.

Can I receive text alerts abroad?
If you are receiving or sending mobile text messages while outside the UK, network overseas charges may apply. You should check with your network operator for details.
