Open ended investments
Investment choice backed by specialist management
Open ended investment products let you invest for as long, or as short, as you want. They are generally only suitable if you’re thinking about investing for five years or more.
These funds can invest in different investment assets. They can give you exposure to a broad range of investment opportunities – including equities and bonds. And they don’t restrict you to the volatility associated with investing solely in one type of investment asset.
How they work
Open ended investment products work by pooling investors' cash to buy investment assets.
Each investor's part of the pool is represented by a number of shares. The share price changes according to the total value of all the assets in the investment fund.
Shares can be cashed in at any time and their value can be checked in national newspapers and on financial websites.
Risks
Depending on the type of asset they invest in, open ended investment plans will exhibit different levels of risk. A fund that invests only in equities for example will be riskier than one that invests only in cash.
RBS open ended funds
RBS has a range of open ended investment products. Some of the funds we operate are invested with a range of top UK fund management companies. This means you can access asset management expertise in a way that helps to manage investment risk.
Child trust funds
A child trust fund lets you invest for your child or grandchild with a helping hand from the government.
