Life and critical illness cover

A lump sum payment that helps you and your family cope

Life insurance and critical illness plans can give your dependants or you some financial support when you need it most.

Life cover

You might not be able to help your family cope with the emotional impact of your death, but you can lighten some of the financial burden. Life insurance can help to give some financial security to your family if you die unexpectedly.

These plans pay out a lump sum on your death. They can be arranged on a single life basis for you only or joint cover for you and your partner.

Life assurance payouts are usually tax free – though they could be included in your estate for inheritance tax purposes. If you write the policy under trust this avoids tax, and can speed up the payout to your dependants.

Over 50s cover

Our guaranteed life cover plan is for anyone age 50 to 75. There are no health questions to be answered and premiums and benefits are guaranteed. The benefits under your plan could be used to help cover funeral expenses, or leave a small nest egg for grandchildren.

Critical illness

Improvements in healthcare and other medical advances have resulted in many more people surviving serious conditions – such as heart attacks, cancer and strokes – that were previously fatal.

But some illnesses could still be debilitating and can lead to major lifestyle changes. This could mean no longer being able to work – or save.

RBS critical illness plans provide a lump sum if you suffer from a specified illness. You could decide to invest this to provide an income, make any necessary changes to your home or any other purpose.
