Fraud warnings

If we think there's a fraudulent transaction on your credit card, we will call you to make sure. You can also sign up for our free fraud text alerts - so we send fraud warnings straight to your mobile phone.

Chip and PIN

Your RBS credit card uses the latest Chip and PIN technology to fight card fraud. A microchip in the card stores data more securely. And when you shop, you will be asked to type your PIN into a special keypad.

RBS Secure - an extra layer of protection

RBS Secure allows you to use a dedicated password to confirm online payments. It's completely free, and ensures that only a genuine cardholder can make the purchase.

How does it work?

First, you select your own private password. Then, when you shop and pay at many online shops, you will be automatically prompted to enter random characters from the password. This makes sure you are the genuine cardholder.

Our internet guarantee

It can happen - you find a transaction using your details has been carried out on the internet without your knowledge or consent. Our response is simple: if you've registered with RBS Secure, we guarantee not to hold you liable for the fraudulent transaction.

Can I register more than one card?

Yes, you can register any Royal Bank of Scotland, MINT or NatWest credit or debit card. All cards must be in your own name.

Just £29 covers cards for loss, theft or fraudulent use

Card Protection Plus protects all your credit and debit cards and those of up to four other people in your household. If a card is lost or stolen, one phone call cancels the cards and orders replacements.

How much does it cost?

£29 for one year, or £70 for three. If you're not completely satisfied, you can cancel the cover within 14 days and receive a full refund - as long as you have not made a claim.

If you are a Royalties current account customer, you receive a form of card protection as part of your package.

What's covered?

Card Protection Plus covers you and your households credit cards, store cards, bank cards, and membership cards.

If you're stranded overseas, you can apply for a £3,000 emergency cash advance; £3,000 to help pay your hotel bills; and up to £5,000 to cover lost tickets and travel documents.

We'll also give you up to £200 to replace the missing bag, wallet purse or briefcase your cards were in.

Simply select Card Protection Plus when you apply for your card online. You can also apply later.
