Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why are you sending me a MasterCard instead of a Visa card?
A: RBS are always looking at new ways to improve the services we provide to you. Our expanded relationship with MasterCard will enable us to focus on the development of new and innovative products and services in the coming years. Of course, your new MasterCard will continue to offer you unsurpassed acceptance around the world – at over 24 million locations

Q2: Do I need to do anything when my new card arrives?
A: Once your new MasterCard card arrives you will need to:

  • Cut up your old card and dispose of it in a secure manner
  • Get in touch with any of the companies that you have automatic payments set up with to let them know that you have a new account number and expiration date.

Q3: How will these changes affect me?
A: Your MasterCard card will have a new 16 digit account number and expiry date. The 3 digit security number on the reverse of the card will also be different. Everything else will stay the same – the balance that you currently have on your current Visa account will be automatically moved over to your new MasterCard account. Your statement date and PIN will also stay the same.

Q4: What about the automatic payments, like Sky, that I have set-up with my old card?
A: You will need to get in-touch with the companies and provide them with your updated account details.

Q5: My current card bill is paid through a Direct Debit mandate, do I have to set-up a new one?
A: No, we have taken care of this for you. Your current Direct Debit mandate will be transferred.

Q6: How long will it be before my new card arrives?
A: Your new RBS MasterCard will arrive in mid September 2008. If your card has not arrived before the month in which your VISA card is due to expire please call us at 0845 300 8458 to let us know.

Q8: What if I have bought tickets for a flight, or reserved a car/hotel with my old card?
A: If you are picking up tickets you should take your new card with you and let them know that it is a replacement for your Visa card. You may be asked for your address as a security measure as well.

Q9: I have some remaining credit card cheques linked to my old account, may I still use them?
A: No, please destroy all the cheques that you have not used – we recommend that you either shred or cut them into several pieces to ensure that they are not used improperly. Of course, we will honour any cheques that you have used already and the debit will be reflected on your new MasterCard account.

Q10: What if I do not remember my PIN?
A: Your PIN will not change but if you’ve forgotten it you can call us at 0845 300 8458 and we will send you a new one.

Q11. What if I do not want to receive a replacement MasterCard?
A: If you do not want to take advantage of your exciting new MasterCard, call us on 0800 046 6788 by 4 August 2008.
